Ms. Donnita McArthur is the Lead Engineer for the Virginia Class fiber-optic cable plant. She performs this role as a part of the In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) team within the Fiber-Optic Group at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), where she has been employed since 2017. Her duties include scheduling, coordinating, performing, and reporting the results of fiber optic repair readiness assessments and material condition assessments. She also develops job performance aids, authors standards for naval shipboard fiber optic components, systems, and equipment, as well as provides subject matter expertise on an ad hoc basis.
In addition to her technical duties, Ms. McArthur serves on the executive board of the National Society of Black Engineers, Potomac River Professionals chapter. She is currently the 2019 – 2020 Chapter Vice President. She is also on the A-Department Retention Focus Team and moderates a Lean-In Circle at NSWCDD.
Ms. McArthur began her career in NAVSEA at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 2015, where she was a Nuclear Engineer in the Primary Plant Control Branch. Her duties in this position included using written standards and methods to author instructions for repairs and maintenance on naval ships, providing engineering evaluations and subject matter expertise for deficiencies on electrical and mechanical components using technical manuals, drawings, and military specifications. She also performed project management as she planned the sequence of work for various installations, repairs, and maintenance on naval carriers and submarines.
Ms. McArthur earned her Master of Science degree in Electronics Engineering and Bachelor of Science degree in Optical Engineering from Norfolk State University.
